I'm sure most people would've setup IRC by now, so I'd recommend them to join #mpuktf2.pickup. The skill level is pretty high here, so it'd be a good practice for the ladder games. The rules and FAQ for the PUG channel are here: Rules & FAQs
I'm idling on it anyway; hoping to get some games over the weekend.

Bumping this thread in wake of our eXs scrim. I would recommend everyone to get on this channel. If you have trouble setting up IRC gimme a shout either over vent or steam chat. This would be great practice for us for the ED ladder cos everyone who idles here are from pretty respectable clans (I've seen guys from excello, pandemic, four kings getting into the games). What better way to improve ourselves than playing with the best in the game?

Internet relay Chat. It's a conglomeration of several chatrooms, where you can chat, do quizzes, download movies/games, play games etc. Its quite handy for organizing wars between clans for FPSs, as people from clans idle on their channel, so you can get in contact with them. One of the most used IRC clent is mIRC. Several FPS communities are found on the Quakenet server of IRC (including #snuke). Once you connect to the server, type /join #[whatever channel you want] and you will be connected to that chatroom. #mpuktf2.pickup is one such channel found on Quakenet. #doomsters and #snuke are other examples.

I don't get it, can you type in it without having to change windows? That's what I assumed was the big hook of it, that you could type in IRC while playing a game - my TF2 really doesn't like getting alt-tabbed...

it's an app that runs in the background, bit like msn.

You need to connect to quakenet, give yourself a name and then type

/c #snuke

and you'll see us.

BTW, loads of girls in our chan, if that doesn't concentrate your mind nothing will.

It says in their FAQ one needs to be authed with quakenet to participate. I still can't get this to work >.<

I've tried many times with my spam e-mail address and the e-mail with my password just never arrives. So today I started from scratch and tried it with my private e-mail address, and still no success! I checked the junk folder, searched my mail, and I'm certain there's nothing recieved.

So I must just be doing something stupid wrong.

I connect to the snuke channel and type /msg q hello tomd22@gmail.com tomd22@gmail.com

It says it's sending me a message but as I say nothing ever arrives. In the settings screen that pops up when mIRC is started, I also have my e-mail set as tomd22@gmail.com


Ideas?

Neverind. On the 6th try, doing nothing different, it suddenly works and the e-mail comes.

The pickup was fun, if kinda scary since being the only medic it's hugely obvious when you fuck up.

Standard of play was pretty low, though. Only one guy on our team used voice comms, so I ended up healing him the whole map and ignoring the rest of the team who just ran all over the place and switched to silly classes and stuff.

Just depends sometimes. I had a bunch of Germans my first time.

First time with germans is never good. So cold and metallic All my games have been top notch. So far. I reckon its just luck who's playing at the time. Usually after 7pm, the pugs get better as most people are back frm work/school etc and good games are to be had.

Yea I'll have to try and jump on some more mixes, only done the one so far, but was great with everyone using comms and some real decent players

yeah same here. Team i played with was good, bar the scouts who got grief all game.

Really enjoyed it.
